WNYC’s Spinning On Air: Vashti Bunyan and Gareth Dickson

Published by Jon under gareth dickson, radio

Gareth Dickson accompanies Vashti Bunyan in WNYC Studio on the Spinning On Air show.

The songs of Vashti Bunyan have a gentle, quiet sound, but they tell tales of strength, resilience, and insight. Vashti joins host David Garland in the studio once again, this time to play and talk about songs she wrote in 1964 and 2009, and from a few points in between. Accompanying Vashti is Scottish guitarist Gareth Dickson, who then plays us a couple of his own songs, which are mysterious, rhythmic, and lovely.

Gareth Dickson’s Collected Recordings review at Moon Tomb

Published by Jon under gareth dickson, review

Glowing review of Collected Recordings at Moon Tomb.

‘collected recordings’ consists of songs from two of his prior albums (solina sea, spruce goose) and previously unreleased tracks. when i was first getting familiar with this album, i would hear certain songs playing on shuffle and mistake them for nick drake songs that i had either forgotten about or had yet to become familiar with. a perfect contrast between gentle finger-picked guitar, dreamy folk vocals, and ambient a-la brian eno or labradford. probably my favorite album of 2009. like a dream you never want to leave.
